Bank of Jamaica is advising that its representatives met with the person who recently communicated via social media as having received, from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM), what appeared to be a flawed $1,000 polymer banknote. The Bank has retrieved and replaced the note.

The Central Bank and the banknote printers, De La Rue are continuing investigations into the matter.  When these investigations are complete, the Bank will provide a further update.

Bank of Jamaica wishes to remind the public that once they are in receipt of a genuine polymer banknote, that appears to be flawed, they should return it to the Bank for replacement.

The Central Bank reiterates that public confidence in the integrity of Jamaican banknotes is of paramount importance. Members of the public who have questions or concerns about the new banknotes are being reminded to contact the Bank’s customer service number at (876) 922-0750.
